BOLIVIA El Femenino is made from washed Caturra and Criolla beans. An incredibly aromatic and fresh tasting coffee with a mild nutty aftertaste. Coffee in Bolivia is usually grown in villages on small family farms. The country's location (high altitude), fertile soils and abundant and regular rainfall make Bolivia ideal for growing coffee trees. Bolivian coffees are characterised by a medium, "creamy" body and a delicate acidity.

Our September roast comes from a project that certainly deserves attention. The Café Femenino programme is the only one of its kind that aims to reduce poverty and improve the lives of women working in the coffee sector around the world.

INFORMATION ON THE FARM:

By gradually overcoming barriers such as geographical isolation, uneven terrain and lower social status, the situation of the women working at Café Femenino in Bolivia is steadily improving. Their income is increasing, new development opportunities are opening up and their health and that of their families is improving. There are currently 42 women working in the Café Femenino programme.

One of their first successes was getting their names on land titles. It may sound trivial, but it ensures that if a woman leaves or loses her husband, the land will remain her property, protecting her and her children from sudden poverty. This is a powerful way to build the self-esteem of women who are used to working without adequate pay.
