Dark Bamboo Chasen
The traditional bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) is an absolute essential for every Japanese matcha lover. Handcrafted from a single piece of high-quality dark bamboo, our whisk is designed specifically to perfectly froth matcha and achieve a smooth, creamy consistency without lumps.

How is it different from a light bamboo chasen?
- More mature bamboo – dark bamboo is seasoned for a longer time, making the fibers more flexible and resistant to deformation.
- Greater durability – better shape retention with regular use.
- Better foam – stronger fibers create a dense, fine froth more quickly and without lumps.
- More refined appearance – the deep bamboo tone beautifully contrasts with the vibrant green of matcha and enhances the preparation ritual.

Care Instructions
The chasen should not be washed in a dishwasher. To preserve its shape and the elasticity of the fibers, rinse it with warm water after use and let it dry on a dedicated stand (sold separately). Do not store a damp whisk in a cardboard box — it needs proper air circulation to dry thoroughly and maintain durability.

How to Prepare Matcha?
- Add 1.5–2 g of matcha (approx. 1 level bamboo chashaku scoop or half a small teaspoon) into a bowl and pour in 60–80 ml of water at 70–80°C (158–176°F).
- Start slowly — gently spread the matcha along the bottom to fully combine it with the water. Then lift the chasen closer to the surface and whisk vigorously in W or M motions for about 10–20 seconds, using your wrist.
- A dense, fine foam should appear on the surface — a sign that the matcha has been properly prepared.
- Before use, soak the whisk briefly in warm water. After preparation, rinse and dry it on a stand to preserve its shape and flexibility.
Good matcha deserves proper preparation.
