How we source coffee
The coffees selected for our range are high quality, carefully selected raw materials that undergo testing and quality control. At JAVA Coffee, customer satisfaction is our priority, which is why we pay so much attention to sourcing the best beans and processing them in a way that enhances their character. Every product that leaves our roastery is guaranteed to deliver the best taste and aroma that won't disappoint any coffee lover. Our roasters treat every coffee we roast as a ticket to the country of origin. Each time is a new adventure for us.
Where does JAVA Coffee source its coffee?
Before our product can be transformed into the best cup of coffee, it must undertake a long journey. The raw material arriving at JAVA Coffee Roasters is sourced from trusted distributors who offer beans from the best farms. These plantations are run by farmers who strive to ensure that the beans retain their natural flavor after processing. They operate based on ecological methods and sustainable development. We receive Arabica beans from various parts of the world, including Ethiopia, Guatemala, Brazil, India, Costa Rica, Colombia, New Guinea, and Honduras.
How does the coffee selection process work?
As a coffee roastery, we rely on our knowledge and many years of experience when selecting raw material. The first step in the process is obtaining coffee samples from selected green bean distributors, to then evaluate their potential as a group and decide if they will fit well in the JAVA Coffee Roasters offerings. Only after a positive reception is the coffee thoroughly considered in terms of price and producer. Ultimately, if nothing speaks against the decision, contracts are signed and we order the selected coffee for our roastery.
Objective coffee evaluation — blind testing
An essential part of the coffee selection process is blind testing, which guarantees an objective choice of the best raw material for our offerings. Samples are evaluated without any tester knowing the country or region of origin, producer, supplier, or processing methods. The group consists of at least three people, but we strive to have more testers to allow for a more precise assessment of the bean's qualities. The goal of the test is an expert evaluation of quality, allowing us to select the most valuable samples.
Main selection criteria at JAVA Coffee Roasters
The methods used by our team to select the best coffee are based on criteria that the samples must meet to be added to the JAVA Coffee offerings. The primary factor is the presence of defects, which lead to disqualification of the raw material. However, the driving force behind the selection is the taste and aroma. Ideally, the coffee should be received by experts as flawless in every respect, which will translate into customer satisfaction.
The most important criterion: does the coffee have defects?
The quality of coffee is determined by whether it has defects, which can occur due to errors during harvest or processing. Mechanical damage negatively impacts the attributes, potential, and value of the raw material. Therefore, good coffee is one that arrives at the roastery without defects. We can recognize this through visual assessment of the green bean and a roasted sample brewed in cupping. This is what guides us in our coffee roastery because we want to share the best quality products with our customers.
