Our History
1999 - Launch of Stoney Point Java chain of cafes in Warsaw, first one at ul. Panska 83, Warszawa.
Coffee was fresh roasted on a 5KG 1970s Probat and amazing sandwiches designed by a chef that flew in from Spago Los Angeles!
2001 - Stoney Point Java becomes Sp z o.o. limited company
2004 - Glen Gregory appointed CEO. Roasting coffee had been the hobby part of the business, running the cafes was the business, but what we really enjoyed was roasting coffee, not running cafes so SPJ closed and name change to JAVA Coffee and pivoted to supplying HoReCa.
2005 - We flew to Glasgow to meet Ewan Reid, Ewan introduced us to Steve Hurst at Mercanta. Our journey into specialty coffee started here!
2005 - CEO Glen Gregory travelled to Latin America organised by "Cup of Excellence" 2006 Acquired a Sivetz and retired the old lady Probat. Wholesale business grew and beginnings of the specialty coffee scene began to seed in Warsaw;
2007 - Became the first mainland Europe distributor for SUKI Tea
2007 - JAVA became Certified Organic/Organic Coffee Producer
2009 - JAVA became Member of Cup of Excellence program
2009 - Glen Gregory became Cup of Excellence
2009 - JAVA UNIVERSITY launched, we knew that training and standards must be at the heart of what we do
2010 - 1st time Single Origins/Light Roast in our offer (beginning of Alternative Brewing in Poland)
2011 - Launch of Youbean.com, vending machines with BUNN grinders installed in retail points around Warsaw, routinely refilled with fresh roasted coffee - later terminated - too early!!!!
2013 - Official opening JAVA University on Palisadowa and opening of a JAVA Pop Up within Warsaw's largest organic market
2013 - Arrival of Loring Kestrel 35KG, cuts emissions by up to 80%. Started up JAVA Serbia in Belgrade with local partners Milos and Jovan
2014 - Launch of JAVA's first B2C webshop and Coffee of the Month program
2016 - Karina Pest winning Polish Cup Tasters Championship, Rafal Kaniewski's promotion to head roaster. Glen Gregory stands down as CEO and replaced by Nick Fitzwilliams
2017 - Launch of ReJAVA zero waste solutions and introduction of plant milks. JAVA became country distributor for Minor Figures, Sproud and Rude Health.
2018 - Arrival of Diedrich 25KG. Rafal winning Polish Roasting Championship... and launch of JAVA Canada and launch of seasonal specialty espresso
2019 - Rafal coming 8th in the Rimini Roasting World Championship and acceleration of JAVA's specialty Coffee of the Month program and launch of JAVA UK
2020 - Further acceleration of JAVA's specialty Coffee of the Month program and pivot to online B2C because of Covid-19.
2021 - Continued development of JAVA's specialty coffee launching more frequently "super" coffees and maintaining JAVA's very high standards despite a very challenging lockdown in Quarter 1. Exited JAVA Serbia in Nov 2021.
2022 - Launch of JAVA's new B2C and B2b webshop.
