Single origin from South Kivu – cherry, Assam tea, and milk chocolate

Umoja Wetu from the Democratic Republic of Congo is a coffee with a clean, balanced profile — the result of washed processing, which highlights fruit clarity and keeps the cup precise. Juicy cherry, gently astringent Assam tea, and smooth milk chocolate form a profile that is harmonious and refined. Roasted as an omni roast — it works well in batch brew, drip, moka pot, and espresso.

Umoja Wetu omni roast – one coffee, multiple brewing methods

Omni roast is a roast profile designed to perform well across brewing methods. Umoja Wetu works in batch brew and drip, where the fruit clarity and subtle tea astringency come through cleanly. In a moka pot or espresso, the chocolate sweetness moves to the foreground, balanced by the cherry character of the cup.

What makes Umoja Wetu from DR Congo stand out

The history of coffee in the Democratic Republic of Congo is one of recovery. In the 1980s, the country exported over 120,000 tonnes of coffee annually — among the highest volumes on the continent. Armed conflict towards the end of the century caused a dramatic collapse in exports, falling to under 10,000 tonnes per year. Since the early 2000s, conditions have gradually stabilised, with new cooperatives and initiatives rebuilding the Congolese coffee sector on the world market.

Specialty coffee beans – JAVA Coffee Roasters

The Umoja Wetu cooperative — meaning "Our Unity" in Swahili — brings together smallholder farmers from the South Kivu region. Founded in 2010, it began producing specialty coffee in 2017 and has developed consistently since. The farms sit on a plateau above Lake Kivu at 1,400–1,600 metres above sea level — conditions well suited to growing Arabica with a clean, expressive profile.

The cooperative supports its members with processing and export logistics, and runs ongoing training programmes focused on quality improvement and environmentally responsible farming practices.

Historia kawy w Demokratycznej Republice Konga była burzliwa.  Lata 80 XX wieku to czas, gdy kraj ten eksportował ponad 120 tys. ton doskonałej kawy każdego roku.

The UMOJA WETU Cooperative, meaning “Our Unity,” brings together small-scale producers and works to support local communities living in South Kivu. It was founded in 2010 and began focusing on specialty coffee production in 2017. Since then, the cooperative has been continuously developing within this sector.

Lake Kivu is located on a plateau, and the high elevation above sea level provides excellent conditions for coffee cultivation — primarily Arabica — in this region.
