In the world of coffee, it's easy to stop at taste. Foam, body, balance – they all matter. But when we take a broader look, coffee – and everything we serve with it – becomes a choice. One that carries real consequences for the planet.
That’s why at JAVA, we’ve long partnered with conscious brands. One of them is Sproud – a company that proves a plant-based drink can not only froth beautifully but also carry real values. Their latest Sproud Impact Report 2024 isn’t about slogans or trends – it's about real data, actions, and commitments that shift how we think about what we pour into our cups.
The report shows that each liter of Sproud drink replacing cow’s milk avoids an average of 78.8% of greenhouse gas emissions. Over a year, with more than three million liters sold, this adds up to a reduction of 3,470 tons of CO₂e – equivalent to what over 57,000 trees could absorb in ten years. These numbers leave no doubt – choosing a plant-based alternative truly makes a difference.

How is this possible? The key lies in the main ingredient – yellow split peas. This crop naturally enriches the soil with nitrogen, needs little irrigation, doesn’t emit methane – and grows close to the production facilities. Sproud produces in Sweden and Finland, reduces transport, uses renewable packaging, and keeps its products shelf-stable. The result? One of the lowest carbon footprints in the plant-based drinks market – in 2024, just 0.308 kg CO₂e per liter, down 9.9% from 2022. In comparison, cow’s milk emits around 1.34–1.5 kg CO₂e per liter, while oat drinks average 0.5–0.7 kg.

But that’s not all. Sproud is the first and only food brand in the world to receive independent verification for sustainability efforts according to the ISO 26000 standard – and they maintained it in 2024. This commitment covers not just environmental impact, but also ethics, organizational governance, social responsibility, and workplace culture. That same year, they also completed the process of becoming B Corp certified – one of the world’s most rigorous frameworks for responsible business.

Sproud’s new look – same taste, new packaging
2024 also marked a breakthrough in logistics – Sproud fully switched to zero-emission transport in Sweden, one year ahead of schedule. Every delivery – from factory to warehouse to point of sale – happens without fossil fuels. The goal now is to expand this model across Europe, including Poland.
At the same time, Sproud continues to expand its range. Last year, they launched Sproud Barista Zero – a plant-based drink that contains no sugar or sweeteners, yet froths beautifully and enhances coffee flavor instead of masking it. Its creamy texture, high protein content, and steaming stability have made it a favorite among baristas – and a staple at many of our partner cafés.

Why does all this matter? Because more and more of our clients – café owners, restaurateurs, hoteliers – aren’t just looking for “plant-based milk.” They’re looking for a partner with whom they can create a meaningful offer. One that aligns with their values and the needs of their guests. One that, while delivering taste and quality, brings something more to the table.
At JAVA, we don’t serve Sproud because it’s trendy. We serve it because it reflects what we care about: integrity, transparency, continuous improvement, and boldness to act differently.
The Sproud Impact Report 2024 isn’t just a report to us. It’s a reminder that change is possible – if we create it together.

Because good coffee isn’t just about taste. It’s about choice. And a good choice starts with a carton of peas.
