Once an event reserved only for hipster baristas and other insiders, today cupping is simply about tasting coffee and comprehensively understanding its sensory aspects, which no longer surprises anyone. The coronavirus pandemic, however, made conducting cuppings impossible. But can you organize such a thing in the comfort of your home? Yes, you can 🙂
GOOD COFFEE IS A HUMAN RIGHT®
What is it all about?
For the initiated, cupping is the evaluation of coffee's taste and aroma in terms of its quality. It allows us to determine which sensory qualities of coffee we like the most and the least. You have probably had the chance to participate in or at least observe such an event at a coffee shop or roastery. A professionally prepared cupping follows established rules, using special forms, and the coffee is evaluated by Q-Graders – individuals specially trained to classify high-quality arabica, certified by the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association). Today, however, we will focus on how to best and most simply conduct a cupping at home.
Home cupping is a great way to test our Tasting Kits. It’s worth doing this with company so you can share your impressions with others. It’s a really interesting way to spend your free time creatively, and good fun is guaranteed.
By the way, if you want to give someone or yourself a gift of coffee knowledge, an excellent idea would be a training at Java University. Our approach is very personalized, tailored to your skill level, and we’ll teach you exactly what you need.
As the JAVA Team, we are always open to sharing our collective passion. So if you have questions about the broad topic of coffee, we are at your disposal! You can contact us via Instagram or Facebook.
