What Makes the Best Freshly Ground Coffee for Espresso or Drip Brewing?

The best freshly ground coffee for an espresso machine should be ground quite finely. For drip brewing, it’s better to use a medium or medium-coarse grind. Obviously, the fresher the coffee, the better. So, if you can grind the beans yourself at home, you might prefer to order them whole and then grind them using a grinder or an espresso machine with a built-in grinder. However, if you don’t have such equipment, you can choose pre-ground beans, which also have their advantages. Firstly, this product is ready to brew immediately after opening the package. Secondly, at JAVA Coffee, we grind the beans in a way that’s specifically tailored to your chosen brewing method. Surprisingly, this has a huge impact on the final taste and aroma of the coffee. Our offerings include coffee ground for espresso machines or Moka pots, as well as for drip brewing methods like pour-over. Just select your preferred grind when ordering, and we’ll send it to your address. If you need more information, feel free to contact us!

Grinding Methods

Buying pre-ground coffee is a safe option if you’re unsure how to grind the beans yourself for a particular brewing method. It’s important to remember that different brewing methods dictate how the beans should be roasted and ground. For pour-over methods, lightly and medium-roasted beans are used, which are also ground to a medium consistency. This way, the resulting coffee is light, aromatic, delicate, and free of bitterness. If you use finely ground coffee in a filter, the prolonged contact with water will result in a bitter-tasting drink. Of course, the ground coffee shouldn’t be too coarse, either, because then the coffee will be weak and lack aroma. On the other hand, for espresso methods, the beans are roasted medium or dark and then ground very finely, so that water under pressure (about 8.5 - 9.5 bar) can perform the extraction, which takes just a few seconds. This is how you get a strong, intense, and aromatic espresso.

Specialty Ground Coffee, or 100% Arabica

Specialty ground coffee, meaning top-quality coffee, is ground from Arabica beans. It’s certainly not just any coffee you might find on a supermarket shelf. When choosing a product at the store, you often don’t even know what type of beans were used in that particular case or whether they are fresh. Since ground coffee does lose some of its aroma during grinding and storage, if you want to enjoy its intensity, you need to choose a truly high-quality product—carefully selected and freshly roasted. These criteria are fully met by 100% specialty-grade Arabica available at our roastery. Additionally, we strive to ensure that the product reaching our customers is as fresh as possible, so we roast all beans within a maximum of 7 days before shipping. Our offering includes not only specialty-grade coffee beans but also a variety of brewing accessories and additives such as plant-based drinkssoy, oat, coconut, rice, or almondBacanha syrup, chai concentrate, cascara concentrate, and chocolate. We invite you to explore our comprehensive range of products, and if you have any questions, please contact us.

What Makes It Stand Out?

Coffee beans from the specialty segment make up a small percentage of all coffees available on the market. These are Arabica beans grown at altitudes exceeding 2,000 meters above sea level. To earn the specialty label, the coffee must be rated very highly by professional Q-graders (the minimum score is 80/100). During the quality testing process, factors such as the coffee’s physical appearance, aroma, and taste after brewing are taken into account. Our range includes various sensory profiles such as floral, fruity, sweet, nutty, and chocolatey. The highest quality beans are hand-picked and grown organically. In practice, they stand out with a rich, complex flavor free of bitterness.
