Jaką kawę wybrać dla Mamy? Przewodnik po prezentach z JAVA Coffee

What Coffee to Give Mum? A Gift Guide from JAVA Coffee Roasters

There are moments when you want to be the one who takes care of her. Brew her coffee before she even gets up. Settle her on the balcony before the day gets loud. Say in one breath: "I know how you like your coffee. And thank you for everything."

In the roastery, we often hear: "I want to buy coffee for my mum, but I don't know what she likes." That's completely normal — because mums come in all kinds. One only drinks it with milk, another takes it black from a dripper, and another has been saying for years that coffee makes her "too wired."

So instead of one answer, we have five suggestions. One for each type of mum.

For the mum who says "I really can't drink this much coffee" — Decaf Colombia Asomujer

Sound familiar? Mum loves coffee, but after the third cup she says her heart is racing. Or she simply doesn't want caffeine in the evening, but the ritual of brewing is still sacred to her.

Decaf Colombia Asomujer solves that problem — without any compromise on taste.

The beans are decaffeinated using the EA Decaf method, also known as the sugar cane process. In short: caffeine is removed using ethyl acetate derived from sugar cane. It sounds technical, but the result is simple — the coffee tastes like coffee. Full, sweet, with notes of molasses, red apple and nougat.

And there's something more. ASOMUJER is a Colombian women's cooperative from the Huila region. The name is short for Asociación de Mujeres — literally "women's association." These are producers who grow, harvest and process their own coffee at altitudes of 1,400–2,000 metres above sea level. When you buy this coffee for your mum, you're also supporting other mums on the other side of the world. A better Mother's Day gift is hard to find.

For the mum who needs a moment of calm — matcha

Not every mum is a coffee person. Some prefer something gentler, but still with character.

Matcha contains both caffeine and L-theanine. The latter has a calming effect and supports concentration. The result? Energy without the nerves. In our cafés we often hear that customers switch to matcha for exactly this reason — they want the boost, but a quieter one.

We have two options — each special in its own way.

Yōkiro Matcha Traditional 03 is a premium grade — made from leaves from the first and second harvest, shade-grown in the Japanese regions of Aichi and Shizuoka. It has a smooth, balanced flavour without the unpleasant bitterness that often puts beginners off. Mum can drink it straight, as a classic matcha latte with Sproud Vanilla, or with a dash of Bacanha Lavender syrup. One pack, many possibilities.

PerfectTed Matcha Ceremonial 100 g is a new addition to our range — a ceremonial matcha from Japan that has won over matcha lovers across Europe. Awarded a Great Taste Award, it comes from the first spring harvest and is creamy and naturally sweet.

Intense, but without aggressive bitterness or a grassy finish. A blend of Yabukita, Okumidori and Saemidori cultivars, tested for heavy metals and radiation. Vegan, gluten-free, non-GMO. Works in matcha latte, iced matcha and traditional preparation with water.

A good choice for the mum just starting her matcha journey — and for the one who already knows exactly what she wants.

For the mum who loves discovering new flavours — Indonesia Buana Mandiri Organic

If your mum is an explorer — she likes trying new things and isn't afraid of a coffee that tastes different from the usual — this one is a perfect match.

Indonesia Buana Mandiri Organic comes from the Gayo region of Sumatra. Grown organically on volcanic soils and processed using the wet-hulled method — typical of Indonesia. This process gives the coffee its characteristic, heavy body (the density and weight you feel on the palate) and an earthy, deep profile.

In the cup you'll find notes of dark chocolate, tobacco and tropical fruit. It's a coffee you feel — it has character and doesn't pretend to be something it isn't.

At JAVA University we often say that Indonesian coffees are a great entry point for people who have mainly been drinking dark-roasted blends. They share a similar intensity, but offer much more depth and complexity.

For the mum who just wants a great everyday coffee — Flower Power (filter blend)

Sometimes you don't need to look far. Mum doesn't need a coffee from a single farm in Ethiopia. She needs something that tastes just as good every time — in the morning, after lunch, on a Sunday with cake.

Flower Power is our filter blend of Arabicas from Africa and the Americas. Always specialty, always consistent. Bright and fruity in taste, with citrus upfront and a gentle floral finish that lingers on the palate.

In the roastery we often say that a good blend is harder to get right than a good single origin. The components have to be chosen so the flavour stays consistent from batch to batch. Flower Power is exactly that coffee — reliable and enjoyable without having to think about it.

Works beautifully in a dripper, French press, or even a simple pour-over jug. No stress, full satisfaction.

For the mum who likes to experiment — Bacanha Lavender Syrup

Some mums already have their favourite coffee. But what if you want to add something new — without changing the whole ritual?

Bacanha is a French brand that makes syrups from organic ingredients. No artificial colours, no artificial flavours. We see them more and more often in specialty cafés, because they add an interesting layer without masking the coffee.

Lavender syrup is our pick for Mother's Day. There's something soothing about lavender — added to a latte or cappuccino, it turns an ordinary coffee into something that feels more like a moment at a spa than a morning routine. Just a few millilitres is enough.

It also works beautifully with matcha — a teaspoon of matcha, Sproud Vanilla plant milk, a little lavender syrup. Mum gets a café-quality drink at home, without leaving the kitchen.

To sum up

A good Mother's Day gift doesn't have to be complicated. All it takes is a coffee (or a matcha, or a syrup) that suits your mum's style — whether that's a decaf for a quiet evening, matcha for a gentle boost, exotic Indonesia to explore, a reliable blend for every day, or a lavender syrup to transform an ordinary latte.

You don't need to be an expert. You just need to know how your mum likes her coffee. We've taken care of the rest in the roastery.
