JAVA Coffee Roasters Uganda Rubirizi Specialty Coffee 250 g – whole bean 100% Arabica served with a coffee server and cup on a wooden table in a modern specialty coffee café

Discover a coffee that tells its story one sip at a time—bursting with juicy fruit, dessert-like sweetness, and layers of flavour that linger long after the last cup.

Local farmers from the Rubirizi region in western Uganda

Rubirizi lies in the Rwenzori Mountains in western Uganda—a region that until recently remained outside the mainstream of the specialty coffee world. That all changed with the opening of the Lunar Coffee Washing Station in 2021, run by Long Miles Coffee Project. The organization has been collaborating with African producers for years, focusing on quality, transparency, and long-term relationships with farmers. The high-altitude plantations, fertile volcanic soils, and the SL28 variety create ideal conditions for producing coffees of exceptional purity and distinctive character.

Drying coffee cherries on raised beds in the Rubirizi region

Only ripe fruit is selected for production, which is then placed in closed Jacky Bin tanks, where it undergoes controlled anaerobic fermentation for approximately 60 hours. Anaerobic Natural processing involves fermenting the fruit in an oxygen-free environment, which allows for a more intense fruity aroma, deeper sweetness, and a more complex flavor profile. The coffee is then dried on raised beds for 10–15 days, protected from intense sunlight to maintain a uniform drying rate.

Uganda Rubirizi delights with deep, dessert-like sweetness and remarkable complexity. The cup opens with juicy chocolate-covered cherries and rich dried fruit, creating a velvety, almost liqueur-like character. As the coffee cools, ripe black grape notes emerge, adding freshness and vibrant fruitiness, while delicate nutty undertones bring balance and depth. Despite its expressive flavour profile, the cup remains exceptionally clean, beautifully balanced, and finishes with a long, elegant aftertaste.
