Types of teas
The most popular teas are black, green, white, yellow, pu-erh and oolong (ulung). In addition, this term is used to describe infusions containing herbs and dried fruit, such as cistus, chamomile, wort, mint or raspberry, elderberry or wild rose tea. Tea is also often called a mixture of fruits, herbs and flowers, which on their own or in combination with tea leaves can create extremely interesting flavour compositions.
Tea - the oldest drink in the world
Tea has its history and tradition dating back to 2737 BC. It is considered the oldest drink in the world, and its origin is associated with the figure of the mythical emperor Shennong, who accidentally brewed it for the first time. According to legend, tea leaves miraculously fell into a pot of hot water, and the rising aroma tempted the emperor. It took centuries to popularise tea and it was only in the 16th century that it began to spread beyond the Far East. Europeans had to wait for the drink until the 17th century, and 200 years later, following the example of the English, they fell in love with it forever.
The taste of tea depends on the conditions in which the leaves ripen and what processes they will be subjected to. Most of it is grown in South East Asia, where there is a warm climate and abundant rainfall. Plantations are usually established at altitudes above 2000 m above sea level. Harvesting tea is hard, manual work - only the top buds are picked and only the two leaves below them. They take place from several to several times a year. The leaves are then heated, oxidized, dried or fermented. The names "black", "green", "red" or "white" come from the color of the infusion that we finally obtain from the brewed leaves.

Tea health properties
Tea not only has a unique taste, but also has a positive effect on health. It is rich in antioxidants, the amount of which depends on the type of infusion. The most antioxidants are found in white and green tea, which is why they are considered the most valuable. Many health-promoting properties are attributed to them: they contribute to the cleansing of the body, support metabolism, support the digestive system and have a calming effect. In addition, they are a rich source of vitamins A, B and E.
At JAVA Coffee, we suggest what to consider when choosing a tea. When choosing tea, you should be guided by quality, taste, tea type, flavour and properties. We should remember that drinking leaf tea will bring more benefits to our body than consuming its express version from a bag. You should also definitely pay attention to whether:
- the product is Fairtrade certified;
- made of the highest quality tea leaves;
- comes from organic farming.
Every professional tea shop should provide consumers with this information. You will find them on our JAVA Coffee Roasters website in the tea tab.
