Discover the world of alternative coffee brewing*
Alternatives Basic Individual Training is a practical coffee brewing course for anyone who wants to explore manual brewing methods and understand how to influence flavour in the cup. During a one-to-one session with a JAVA Coffee Roasters trainer, you will learn how to adjust grind size, brew ratio, water temperature and water quality to prepare balanced, repeatable coffee at home.

V60, AeroPress, Chemex, siphon, French Press or Clever Dripper? You will explore the most popular alternative coffee brewing methods, compare their characteristics and learn how to use each one in practice. This beginner-level course requires no previous experience – all you need is curiosity and a desire to brew better coffee.
What will you learn?
You will be introduced to the world of specialty coffee and discover how origin, botanical variety, growing altitude and processing method influence the character of the beans. You will also learn how to understand the information printed on a coffee bag and use it when selecting the right brewing recipe.
During the practical section, you will prepare coffee using a range of brewing methods and observe how changing a single variable affects the final cup. This will help you identify why your coffee tastes too acidic, bitter, weak or flat – and understand how to correct it.
