A Coffee from Bali That Captures the Calm of a Tropical Island

For many people, Bali brings to mind pristine beaches, dramatic volcanoes and endless green rice terraces. It’s a destination that tops countless travel wish lists. But beyond its postcard-perfect scenery lies another story – one told through coffee that has been cultivated for generations in the shade of tropical trees and on fertile volcanic slopes. Our Bali Kintamani comes from a region nestled between the majestic Mount Batukaru and Mount Agung volcanoes. Grown at around 1,200 metres above sea level, it offers a beautifully balanced cup. Rather than overwhelming with intensity, this coffee impresses with its smooth character, natural elegance and exceptional drinkability – the kind of coffee you'll look forward to brewing every day.

JAVA Coffee Bali Kintamani specialty coffee bag in a modern lifestyle setting

Every coffee has a place it calls home. Bali Kintamani takes you there from the very first sip.

The Karana Community of the Kintamani Region of Bali

Bali Kintamani is created by the Karana community, a group of 377 small-scale producers from the Kintamani region. Their farms are nestled on fertile, volcanic slopes, where coffee trees grow amid fruit trees and other crops, creating a natural, sustainable ecosystem. This is coffee created collaboratively—with respect for the land, local traditions, and the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, which has guided life in Bali for generations.

Instead of intensive monoculture, diverse plantings dominate, supporting biodiversity and helping maintain environmental balance. This allows the coffee to mature in natural conditions, and each subsequent plantation remains part of a larger, living ecosystem. This combination of local producers' experience and unique location has long made Kintamani one of Indonesia's most interesting coffee regions.

Natural drying of the beans after processing at the Karana farm

The ripe berries undergo the classic washed process – after selection, they are de-pigged, fermented overnight, thoroughly washed, and dried. This precise process preserves the purity of the sensory profile and highlights the natural characteristics of the S795 and Kartika varieties. The result is a harmonious cup, in which notes of cocoa, citrus, and raisins create an elegant, balanced flavor characteristic of the Kintamani region.

Both varieties have long been prized in Indonesia for their high quality and ability to faithfully convey the character of the terroir. The classic washed process further enhances their transparency and natural sweetness, allowing every nuance of flavor to unfold. This is precisely why Bali Kintamani delights with a calm, pure profile and excellent balance from the first to the last sip.

Bali Kintamani is a coffee that reveals its balance from the very first sip. The profile opens with a pleasant, citrusy freshness that gives the cup a lightness, yet remains perfectly integrated with the deep sweetness of cocoa. As the temperature drops, notes of ripe raisins become increasingly prominent, bringing a velvety sweetness and a long, pleasant finish.

This coffee has a medium body, a clean character, and very good drinkability. The classic washed processing emphasizes the transparency of the flavor, ensuring each note is distinct, yet none dominates. The result is an elegant, harmonious cup that works well as both an everyday coffee and a relaxed option for those seeking a less obvious side of Indonesia.
