Summer Espresso Filled with Juicy Fruit Notes and Summer Sunshine

Summer has a way of changing our coffee rituals.

Mornings start a little earlier, the days stretch a little longer, and coffee often finds its way not only into a cup but also into a glass filled with ice. That's why this year's Summer Espresso takes us to Burundi, to Ninga Hill, where coffee cherries develop an exceptionally vibrant and fruit-forward character.

Burundi Ninga Honey is our seasonal coffee crafted for the warmer months. In the cup, you'll discover juicy notes of blackcurrant and gooseberry, balanced by the sweetness of caramel and milk chocolate. Behind this coffee lies a specific place, a dedicated farming community, and a story that began long before the beans reached our roastery.

GOOD COFFEE IS A HUMAN RIGHT

Ninga Hill Community – Where Our Summer Espresso Story Begins

Ninga Hill is located in Burundi’s Muramvya Province at elevations ranging from 1,800 to 2,000 meters above sea level. It is one of the country's most remote coffee-growing regions, where coffee trees grow alongside narrow footpaths and the homes of local families. This coffee is the result of the work of a community of 764 farmers, including 123 women, who collectively care for more than 167,000 coffee trees. The average farm covers just 300 square meters, with each household tending around 110 coffee trees. Despite the region's challenging history and years of neglect caused by political instability and conflict, Ninga continues to produce coffees celebrated for their remarkable complexity, clarity, and elegance in the cup.

The quality of this coffee is also shaped by the Long Miles Coffee Project, an initiative that has been working directly with coffee producers across Burundi for many years. Their commitment goes far beyond sourcing exceptional coffee. The project actively supports farmers in developing sustainable farming practices and improving coffee quality throughout the season. A key part of this work is carried out by Coffee Scouts, who spend the harvest season on the hillsides alongside local farming families, sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and helping producers unlock the full potential of their coffee. Thanks to this close collaboration, coffee from Ninga Hill preserves not only its distinctive flavor profile but also the story of the people and the place behind every harvest.

Behind every cup of this coffee are the people who spend the entire year caring for their coffee trees, nurturing the land, and patiently waiting for harvest season. It is the result of daily dedication, generations of experience, and thousands of small decisions made throughout the growing process. For us, coffee origin is more than a place on a map. It is the community that gives each coffee its unique identity. Burundi Ninga Honey is a reminder that every bean carries a real story—one that begins long before the first sip of espresso.

From the very first sip, Burundi Ninga Honey stands out with its vibrant juiciness and remarkable clarity of flavor. The cup opens with lively notes of blackcurrant and gooseberry, bringing a refreshing fruit character that is beautifully balanced by the sweetness of caramel and milk chocolate. A rich, full body gives the coffee a satisfying texture while allowing each flavor note to remain distinct and well-defined.

This is a modern espresso with a refined, fruit-forward profile, where bright acidity and natural sweetness work together to create depth and complexity. The finish is long, clean, and refreshing, with a delicate tea-like elegance that lingers pleasantly and invites another sip.
