What are the characteristics of specialty ground coffee?
Specialty ground coffee is coffee prepared from the highest quality beans, ready to brew immediately after opening the package. Specialty coffee beans are sourced in a carefully regulated way. The entire process from cultivation to roasting adheres to strict guidelines, ensuring the brewed coffee is of the highest quality. When ordering coffee from our roastery, JAVA Coffee, you can choose either "beans" or "ground coffee," and you’ll also decide how we grind the selected beans for use in an espresso machine, moka pot, or simply by pouring hot water in a cup. Have questions? Feel free to contact us! We are happy to address any concerns. In addition to top-quality coffee, we also offer a selection of teas such as green tea, white tea, rooibos, matcha, chai tea, healthy shots, and coffee add-ons like plant-based drinks and Bacanha syrup.
What standards does it meet?
You won’t find specialty quality coffee in local stores or large supermarkets. Currently, the most reliable sources for such products are roasteries and their online stores, like our company, JAVA Coffee. Keep in mind that not every freshly roasted coffee is specialty coffee. This designation is only given to carefully selected beans that come from traditional farms. These beans are 100% Arabica, hand-picked, and undergo numerous quality controls. According to experts, they must achieve a score of at least 85/100 for both their visual quality and their aromatic and flavor profiles.
Flavor qualities
Specialty coffee accounts for only a small percentage (about 4%) of all coffee available on the market. It comes from farms located at elevations of up to 2500 meters above sea level. Farmers working with specialty coffee make every effort to ensure their crops are eco-friendly, avoiding artificial fertilizers and using traditional farming methods. Thanks to this cultivation approach, the beans can retain their natural flavor and aroma qualities. This, combined with proper storage, transportation, and roasting, allows us to produce coffee with a highly complex sensory profile. In our coffee, you’ll detect chocolate, nutty, floral, sweet, or fruity notes. Meanwhile, regular coffee from store shelves is often dominated by a bitter taste.
When is it worth choosing specialty ground coffee?
Specialty ground coffee is an alternative to whole bean coffee. Generally, the most intense flavor and aroma come from freshly roasted and freshly ground coffee. For this reason, we always aim to deliver our roasted beans to customers within 7 days. However, if you don’t own a coffee grinder, you can opt for pre-ground beans. This solution has benefits beyond just avoiding the need to buy additional equipment.
Suitable for different brewing methods
You can enjoy the qualities of specialty coffee beans no matter which brewing method you use daily. While some coffees perform better in drip brewing and others taste better as espresso, you can prepare any of our coffees in your preferred method. The important thing is that the beans are ground appropriately for each specific brewing method. For espresso machines, the grind should be fine, for moka pots medium-fine, and for small drips or "pour-over" methods, a medium grind is best. Medium-coarse and coarse grinds are ideal for large drips, French press, or cold brew. With the correct grind size, you can expect a much richer and simply better-tasting cup of coffee. However, you don’t need to be familiar with all these rules to enjoy perfect coffee—just order your coffee pre-ground for your preferred brewing method.
