The best decaf coffee

The best decaf coffee is one that, despite the lack of stimulating effects, features excellent taste and aroma. Beans stripped of natural caffeine still allow for the preparation of an exquisite beverage that delights the senses. However, for this to be possible, the decaffeination process must be carried out very carefully. Currently, the best results in this regard are provided by natural methods, meaning without the use of chemical agents. The quality of the beans themselves is also crucial.

How is the best decaf coffee made?

The best decaf coffee is created from the very beginning during the sorting of the beans, ensuring the entire process is carried out with great care. All Decaf products that you can find in the offer of JAVA Coffee Roasters are decaffeinated solely through natural methods. It's worth remembering that this substance may still occur in small amounts in decaffeinated beans. Currently, European standards permit caffeine content in such coffee at levels of 0.1%–0.3% compared to the initial amount. At JAVA Coffee, we also have a rich assortment of classic 100% Arabica coffees, as well as a wide selection of teas, Bacanha syrups, plant-based drinks, Chai, and accessories for brewing both coffee and tea.

The Decaffeination Process

Decaffeination occurs after sorting the beans, which must be properly prepared for processing and require steaming for half an hour. The next step involves steaming under low pressure, which aims to open the coffee's pores and allow for caffeine extraction. The beans are then immersed in a solution of water and ethyl acetate (a compound that occurs naturally) along with a solvent produced through the fermentation of sugar cane. After immersing the green coffee in this solution, caffeine naturally binds with the salts of chlorogenic acids. This process allows for caffeine extraction. Once the coffee is saturated, the tank is emptied, and fresh solution is introduced. After about 8 hours, the remaining caffeine is removed. The beans are then taken out of the solution and subjected to final steaming under low pressure to eliminate any remaining ethyl acetate. The resulting decaf coffee is dried and physically polished before it can be packaged for transport.

Versatile Applications

Decaf is an exceptionally versatile solution. A beverage prepared from such beans does not differ significantly in taste from classic caffeinated brews, as it retains natural aromas and provides complete satisfaction from tasting. A characteristic feature of decaf coffee is primarily the absence of stimulating properties, as well as those contributing to faster digestion. We recommend this option to individuals who, for various reasons, need to give up caffeine but do not want to completely eliminate coffee from their diet. Decaf is also an excellent choice for those consuming very large amounts of this beverage. The body can safely assimilate a dose of 400 mg of caffeine daily, which corresponds to about two larger cups of coffee. For many coffee lovers, this is an insufficient portion, so it is worth reaching for a decaffeinated product. This solution is also beneficial for those who have difficulty falling asleep or suffer from chronic headaches. Decaf is suitable even for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

What is the best decaf coffee: whole bean or ground?

The best decaf coffee can be either whole bean or ground. In both cases, we particularly recommend the Decaf Colombia Cauca product available in our online store. The choice between whole bean coffee and ground coffee depends on various factors, just like in the case of caffeinated beans. In the first instance, the main advantage is the fullness of aroma. Whole beans are less prone to oxidation, thus preserving their qualities longer. Ground coffee, on the other hand, is a more convenient option, as it does not require self-processing and saves precious time.

The decaffeinated product we offer, Decaf Colombia Cauca, belongs to the specialty segment.
